In light of the recent attack by local terrorists in Basilan and the explosion at Masbate port, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has deployed security personnel on major ports in the country to assist the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in ensuring the safety and security of the passengers, as well as the smooth and on-schedule movement of ships, vessels, and other transport vehicles travelling by sea.
MARINA regional offices and personnel, upon the directive of DOTr Sec. Arthur Tugade, are also instructed to be vigilant at all times and to report suspicious persons and/or activities to authorities to prevent the occurrence of similar attacks.
Hence, the public is enjoined to cooperate in the heightened implementation of checkpoints, inspections, and other security measures, especially on highly-populated areas.
