MARINA Tribute Video for Seafarers on Day of the Seafarer 2020

MARINA Tribute Video for Seafarers on Day of the Seafarer 2020

It is said the shipping is an industry that contributes over 90% to the world’s economy wherein there are more than 100,000 merchant ships plying all over the world, moving goods from one point to another. And seafarers are the ones responsible in carrying these vessels safely.

Seafarers are essential to the world trade. Without seafarers, the world economy would shut down. At this crucial time wherein the world is experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic, our seafarers are continuously working, bravely, and silently, at sea.

And to cap off todays’ celebration of the 2020 Day of the Seafarer and commemoration of the 10th year Anniversary of the 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention and Code, we, in MARINA, acknowledges all your efforts to keep our economy moving with this video tribute to all seafarers!

THANK YOU, SEAFARERS! SALUTE TO OUR INVISIBLE HEROES!

Happy Father's Day 2020

There are more than 1.6 million seafarers worldwide and around 25% of them, or around 400,000 are FILIPINO SEAFERERS. In addition, there is also a number of Filipino Seafarers who work in the domestic trade.

Some of them work in cruise ships, RO-RO vessels, bulk carriers, tanker vessels, cargo vessels, container ships, and other types of vessels – floating and constantly in motion.

Some of them work as Cadet, Ratings, Officers, Cabin Crew, Galley Crew and other crew classifications. As maritime professionals, they are called Captain, Chief Mate, Second Mate, Third Mate, Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, Third Engineer, Fourth Engineer, Bosun, Able Seaman, Ordinary Seaman, Oiler, Wiper, Cook, Messman, Electrician and other positions onboard ships.

But no matter how they are identified onboard ships, their most important role to their children is as a FATHER.

To be at sea is an act of love, an extreme act of sacrifice:
He misses most of the important family occasions – his son’s or his daughter’s birthday, a graduation day, wedding anniversary or the birth of a child.

He endures the loneliness of being far from home and his loved ones.
He endures the hardships of working at sea for months.

But no matter how far away they are at sea, they never really leave their family. More than good providers for the education, housing and other needs of their children, and improve his family’s welfare, we remain connected. They are responsible for the continuation of trade and commerce for the transport of food, medicine, fuel and pharmaceutical and other agricultural products.

And for that we are thankful.
Today, let us take this opportunity to salute all our seafarer fathers!
Happy Fathers’ Day!
