MANILA – The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), through the Manpower Development Service – Maritime Training Program Development Division (MDS-MTPDD) conducted its first Certificate of Marine Profession (CMP) Licensure Examination in Filipino on February 10 and 11, 2022 in MARINA Regional Office IV, Batangas City.
As one of the Agency’s various initiatives in manpower development, the CMP Licensure Examination using the mother tongue medium will be implemented in the MARINA Central Office and the MARINA Regional Offices (MROs) to further empower the legalization and documentation of Filipino seafarers on board domestic ships.
During the Stakeholders’ Meeting with the Administrator last October 2021, MARINA Administrator VADM Robert A Empedrad AFP (Ret) affirmed the use of the Filipino medium in the said examination starting this year 2022. In like manner, the examination will soon be translated into local dominant dialects in the MROs.
The MARINA through its MDS-MTPDD will continue to design and develop training programs in compliance with the national and international laws, conventions, codes, rules and regulations and other developments in maritime manpower sector, and will implement the same to the domestic seafaring industry and other maritime manpower resources in the country.
Moreover, it will continue to adopt pragmatic approaches in maintaining and expanding the country’s reservoir of trained maritime workforce to meet the current and future needs of the maritime manpower sector of the country.
