MANILA – The STCW Office of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has been granted the continuance of certification to ISO 9001:2015, completing the certification cycle of its Quality Management System in its Central Office, as well as its satellite and regional offices in Metro Manila and other regions.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015, a globally recognized quality standard currently followed by more than a million organizations, has certified the STCW Office of MARINA’s Quality Management System (QMS), indicating that it has successfully passed and consistently meets its requirements.
The scope of the certification covers the activities in the MARINA Central Office – STCWO and its devolved functions to the MARINA Regional Offices (MROs) including the MRO National Capital Region (SM Manila and PITX), MRO-IV Batangas, MRO VI-Iloilo and its Bacolod Extension Office, MRO VII-Cebu, and MRO XI-Davao.
The MARINA, as the single maritime Administration when it comes to the implementation of the International Convention on the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) for Seafarers 1978, as amended, through its STCW Office, establishes the policies and procedures for its stakeholders – covering the provisions on training, certification and assessment system of Filipino seafarers to ensure that they are well educated, well trained and well equipped with knowledge and competencies aligned with national and international standards in order to develop them into a globally-competitive seafaring workforce.
This is also in line with the MARINA’s mission to develop Filipino seafarers into a workforce that is competitive on a worldwide scale, ensuring that they are well-educated, well-trained, and well-equipped with knowledge and competencies aligned with national and international standards.
Lastly, the MARINA takes pride in its ISO 9001:2015 QMS certification, as it represents a testament to its commitment. Through its QMS, the Agency is able to continuously enhance its services and realize its objectives of providing high-caliber and effective services that increase overall customer satisfaction.
