The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), led by Administrator Atty. Hernani Fabia, met with Zamboanga City 1st District Representative Khymer Adan T. Olaso at the MARINA Central Office, City of Manila.

During the discussions, the MARINA presented updates on the Philippine Compliance to the European Commission Assessment on the EMSA Inspection Report; Independent Evaluation; safety concerns related to the maritime industry, among others.

Congressman Olaso, a Master Mariner, has been championing the welfare of Filipino seafarers since elected to the Lower House. He recently filed HB 04592, which seeks to allow online renewal of seafarers’ certificates of competency, and proficiency; HB 04894, which aims to fund and establish a seafarers’ one-stop shop to facilitate crew change.

The said lawmaker also urged the leadership of the House to constitute a special committee on maritime industry, and mariner’s affairs for the well-being of Filipino seafarers through HB 00150.

Alongside Administrator Fabia are Deputy Administrator for Operations Engr. Nannette Villamor-Dinopol, OIC-Deputy Administrator for Planning Ms. Sonia Malaluan, STCW Office OIC-Executive Director Mr. Samuel Batalla, and other MARINA Service Unit Directors.
