Congratulations to three (3) MARINA employees who successfully completed their Master of Science (MSc) degrees at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmo, Sweden on 31 October 2022!
First of which is Mr. Herbert V Nalupa who pursued his Master of Science in Maritime Affairs, with specialization in Maritime Education and Training (MET), graduated with distinction and bagged a record number of prizes such as the Chancellor’s Medal for having the highest student grades, the CP Srivastava Award for embodying the highest sense of international fellowship and camaraderie and the MET Prize for graduating with the highest grades in the Maritime Education and Training specialization.

On 28 October 2022, Mr. Nalupa also received as one of the recipients the Kalmar Award for being the class’ student role model.

Mr. Nalupa is actually the first student, and a Filipino scholar at the WMU who received three (3) awards in a graduation ceremony of the University. His UN Fellowship sponsor is the TK Foundation.

Meanwhile, MARINA’s Planning and Policy Service (PPS) Ms. Pfarlin I Cortes has gained her Master of Science degree in Shipping Management and Logistics through a fellowship award from the International Chamber of Shipping, while Ms. Rochyl M Villamor, the pride of MARINA Regional Office 7 in Cebu City has completed her Master of Science in Maritime Safety and Environmental Administration through a fellowship award from the Australian Maritime Safety Agency (AMSA).

MARINA likewise extends its congratulations to the other seven (7) Filipino scholars who have received their Master of Science degrees- five (5) from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and two (2) from the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP).

These 10 Filipino scholars were among the 132 graduates from various parts of the world in the WMU campus in Malmo.
