Manila – The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) took part in the first capacity-building intervention organized by the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) from 23-26 May 2023.

The said training course on ISO 9001:2015 QMS Requirements and Documentation is A component of the capacity-building made possible with the Government Quality Management Program (GQMP) 2023 and technical assistance provided by the DAP headed by its Project Team Manager, Mr. Ronaldo Armin F. Ocampo.

The MARINA has welcomed this initiative as it directly supports the Enabling Program of the MIDP 2028 relating to the implementation of an efficient and effective maritime industry governance system where one of the priority focus is on good governance and accountability. It likewise contributes to the attainment of the goal of Chapter 14, entitled “Practice Good Governance and Improve Bureaucratic Efficiency of the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.

The MARINA targets to have all its services nationwide certified under the ISO 9001:2028 within the first half of the term of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr.

During the activity, MARINA-Management, Financial and Administrative Service (MFAS) Director Nenita S. Atienza emphasized the importance of ISO certification to the organization. The training is expected to develop the participants’ knowledge and understanding of quality concepts and principles, and the requirements defined in ISO 9001 standards, as well as relevance statutory and regulatory requirements.

On 01 February 2023, the MARINA was selected as one of the 2023 Beneficiary Agencies of the Government Quality Program (GQMP) under the Expansion on ISO 9001:2015.

The establishment of MARINA Quality Management System (QMS) is an essential undertaking to enhance its internal systems, processes, and procedures to efficiently provide government services to the public.
