The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) of the Philippines joined the inaugural IORIS Steering Committee Meeting held in Bali, Indonesia on May 24-25, 2023. The meeting convened representatives from various government agencies and international partners from 30 countries, with the aim of fostering interagency collaboration and enhancing maritime trade security in the region.

IORIS, the Indo-Pacific Regional Information Sharing platform, serves as a neutral and secure channel for operational coordination and communication. The project, fully funded by the European Commission, seeks to harmonize information flows, build trust, and enhance interoperability to ensure the safety and security of maritime trade.

During the steering committee meeting, discussions revolved around important topics such as the governance structure of IORIS, information technology aspects, community area reports, success stories, and partnership agreements. Engr. Ronaldo P. Bandalaria, Director of Enforcement Service, represented MARINA at the meeting, aligning with the agency’s commitment to the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) of the Philippines. MARINA’s participation highlights its dedication to enhancing maritime cooperation and implementing sustainable innovations, digitalization, and knowledge sharing in the sector.

By joining the 1st IORIS Steering Committee Meeting, MARINA reinforces its active role in promoting safety and security in the maritime industry. Collaborating in international initiatives like IORIS, MARINA contributes to advancing the interests of the Philippine maritime sector and ensuring a secure environment for maritime trade.
