With the aim of enhancing maritime safety in the country, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and a lawmaker tackled the importance of compliance to safety rules and regulations.

MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan and Batanes lone District Rep. Ciriaco Gato Jr. discussed how the Agency can assist the passenger boat operators in Batanes, particularly in complying with the policies related to maritime safety.

During the meeting at the MARINA Central Office on 01 February 2024, the Administrator and Cong. Gato also discussed actions to be taken to reduce the costs of boat operators in their daily operations in Batanes without compromising the safety of the vessels.

The MARINA also intends to establish a satellite office in Batanes to facilitate the issuance of certificates and other necessary requirements of boat operators and maritime stakeholders in Region 2.
