The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) conducted an Orientation and Workshop on the MARINA – Blockchain-Enabled Automated Certification System (MARINA-BEST) for Industry Stakeholders in Tacloban City on 22 April 2024.
During the event, MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan emphasized the significance and objectives of MARINA-BEST, aimed at optimizing MARINA’s processes and services through digitalization, thereby providing stakeholders with a faster, simpler, and more accessible system.
Management Information and Systems Service (MISS) Director Dr. Joseph Victor S. Generato led the orientation, urging stakeholders to embrace digitalization and innovation, recognizing their pivotal roles in today’s dynamic landscape. Attendees actively engaged with the system through onsite demonstrations and workshops.
Furthermore, in the afternoon session, Administrator Malaluan actively addressed stakeholders’ concerns, offering clarifications on policies with varying interpretations and assuring them of her commitment to ensuring consistency in understanding.
The event was attended by 78 participants, representing motorbanca operators, shipbuilding and repair owners, and shipping companies. Notable attendees included representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Eastern Visayas and MARINA Regional Office VIII (MRO 8 ) Director Atty. Eusebia A. Cadlum-Boco, who contributed to fruitful discussions and exchanges.
