MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan met with the delegates from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 30 April 2024 at the MARINA Central Office.
The courtesy visit served as a platform for fruitful discussions on various areas of collaboration, notably in maritime education, training, and certification, as well as tourism and shipbuilding. Both parties recognized the potential for synergy in these sectors and expressed enthusiasm for exploring opportunities for mutual benefit.
Furthermore, the MARINA mentioned its openness to reciprocal exchange visits, wherein the Philippines will likewise evaluate Saudi Arabia’s maritime practices to enhance mutual learning and cooperation.
The visit by the delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia coincides with the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on recognizing seafarers’ certificates. Under this MOU, both countries are dedicated to ensuring the quality and proficiency of seafarers.
