The Maritime Industry Authority awarded the winners of the MARINA Boat Design Contest during its 50th Founding Anniversary in Paranaque City on 01 June 2024.

Mr. Paulo Robert Aguila of the Bertoleta Engineering Services won the grand prize of the Professional Category for his entry named MV Casco, which earned a total average of 94 percent.

Meanwhile, the team of Mr. Darryl Abapo, Mr. Raymond Espina and Ms. Dweena Maye Zamora from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines – Jassan Campus earned the runner-up place in the said category.

For the Student Category, different teams from the University of Cebu won all major awards led by the champion ALMIGHTEAM. Among the members of the winning team are John Nicole Jardin, Isaiah Albert Amante and Shaun Francis Bate. Team DAMONA and Team Ara from the University of Cebu won the 2nd and 3rd runner-up place respectively.

The MARINA Boat Design Contest is one of the major activities of the Agency’s 50th Founding Anniversary, which is in line with the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028 and the Coastal and Inland Waterways Transport System (CIWTS). It aims to raise awareness of the naval architecture profession and shipbuilding industry, as well as to enhance the capability of Filipino boat designers to innovate and use new emerging technologies related to boat design.
