Athens, Greece – The Philippines, led by H.E. Giovanni E. Palec, Ambassador of the Philippines to the Hellenic Republic, participated in Posidonia 2024, the world’s premier shipping event. With over 2,000 exhibitors from 82 countries, 23 national pavilions, and 68 maritime conferences, forums, and seminars, the said event stood as a pivotal gathering for the global maritime industry.

The participation of the Philippines in this year’s Posidonia underscored the country’s commitment to strengthening its maritime sector. As a key player in global shipping, the country aimed to leverage this platform to enhance international collaboration, promote Filipino maritime services, and foster sustainable practices within the industry.

Ambassador Palec was accompanied by Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Asec Jerome Pampolina, Asec Mario Zinampan, National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) Capt Chito Go, MARINA Chief of Staff Director Ramon Hernandez, and other Athens-PE officials.

Exhibitors in Posidonia 2024 included companies with offices/branches in the Philippines such as Marlow Navigation, Status Maritime, Jotun, and Seatrium Shipyards.

This year’s Posidonia was considered to be the largest in its history, focusing on the safety and resilience of the international maritime community amid a backdrop of geopolitical conflicts and stringent environmental regulations. This year’s event, held from 3-7 June 2024 at the Metropolitan Expo Centre in Athens, attracted over 40,000 visitors, making it the epicenter of global shipping dialogue.
