The first-ever Philippine Maritime Forum, organized by the Philippine Embassy in Athens, was held on 11 June 2024 at the Intercontinental Hotel. The forum was attended by Greek shipowners, ship managers, and other maritime stakeholders.

MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan presented the Maritime Industry Development Plan 2028, highlighting investment opportunities in domestic shipping and shipbuilding. Updates and developments relating to seafarers were also shared.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), represented by Assistant Secretary Atty. Jerome Pampolina, introduced the DMW as a new department, outlining its mandate and functions, as well as current programs for overseas Filipino workers.

Besides seafarer issues, discussions also included the Single Maritime Window and Free Trade Agreements.

H.E. Ambassador Giovanni E. Palec expressed appreciation to all attendees and encouraged them to organize and establish a Greek-Philippine Maritime Association.

Also present at the forum were Athens PE officials, MARINA Chief of Staff Director Ramon Hernandez, DMW Assistant Secretary Mario Zinampan, NMP Captain Chito Go, and Labor Attaché Cynthia Cruz.
