The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) congratulates the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy for the inauguration of its Women’s Dormitory in Calamba City, Laguna.
MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan attended the ribbon cutting of the facility on 05 July 2024, and she also officially welcomed the first batch of women cadettes of the NTMA in her speech during the 13th Commencement Exercises of the academy. She also expressed her gratitude to the NTMA for this development and commended their contribution to the promotion of women in the maritime sector.
The new dormitory is dedicated to the next generation of women in the Philippine maritime industry. It stands as a testament to NTMA’s commitment to the global goals of quality, inclusive education and women empowerment. The facility consists of a 60-bed capacity. Malaluan was joined by NYK Line President Takaya Soga and TDG President and Co-Chief Executive Officer Rashid Delgado in the ribbon cutting.
Meanwhile, the Administrator also inspired the NTMA Class of 2023 during their commencement exercises. In her speech, she advised the graduates to never stop learning and to take advantage of any opportunity that comes their way by learning as much as they can. Malaluan also emphasized that everyday is a learning process. She said that when a person learn as much beforehand, he or she will be in a better position and more prepared to make the right choice any time along his or her career path and have an advantage over competitors.
The NTMA Commencement Exercises was also attended by Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines H.E. Kazuya Endo, NYK-TDG Maritime Academy President Capt. Antonio Dael, other officials, Chairperson of the NTMA Board Ms. Ma. Nieves Confesor and members of the NTMA Board of Trustees and families of the Class of 2023.
