The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) congratulates the Class 2024 of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) in Mariveles, Bataan on 03 December 2024.
With a total of 223 graduates – 122 from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and 101 from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSME) – the second batch of the EQUESERION Class of 2024 graduated, 8 of which received Special Awards.
In her keynote address, MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan highlighted the important role of Filipino seafarers all over the world who keep global trade flowing smoothly. Malaluan also acknowledged the quality of maritime education that MAAP has been providing through the years along with world-class training facilities and equipment.
The Administrator also pointed out how MARINA is continuously working on improving the welfare and training of our seafarers. She said that the Agency is committed to ensuring that STCW standards are not only met but exceeded. She encouraged Batch 2024 to embrace changes and capitalize on the challenges of emerging technologies in improving daily operations and elevating the overall safety, energy efficiency, and sustainability in the Philippine and global maritime industry.
Further, Malaluan toured the modern facilities of the MAAP and witnessed the demonstration of the latest technology/digital solutions being used in the Academy. Wreath- laying to pay respect to Capt. Gregorio Oca and tree planting were part of her official visit to the academy. She was welcomed by MAAP President Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma R Santos AFP (Ret), MAAP Governing Board Chairperson Dr. Conrado Oca, and other officials.
