KIAMBA, SARANGANI PROVINCE – The MARINA Regional Office 12 (Marina Gensan), led by Regional Director Engr. Bernardo A. Pollo, successfully concluded the third leg of its Maritime Safety Culture Awareness Campaign Caravan held at the Tomas & Luz Community Center in Poblacion on 16 January 2025. The event brought together various stakeholders to promote maritime safety and environmental sustainability.

In his keynote address, RD Pollo underscored the vital role of collaboration among maritime agencies, local governments, and communities in fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

Kiamba Municipality Mayor George F. Falgui highlighted the campaign’s significance to the municipality, where a substantial portion of the economy depends on the fishing industry. He stressed the need to preserve maritime resources to sustain local livelihoods.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MARINA MRO12 and the Kiamba local government unit (LGU). The agreement solidifies their partnership in advancing maritime safety initiatives and promoting environmental stewardship in the region.

The event was attended by representatives from LGUs of Maasim, Kiamba, and Maitum; maritime agencies including the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), PNP-Maritime Group, and the Municipal Fire Station of Kiamba; as well as fisherfolk, tourist boat operators, and other stakeholders.
