On 22 January 2025, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Regional Office VI (MRO 6) was officially identified as one of the beneficiaries of Republic Act No. 10929, otherwise known as the “Free Public Internet Access in Public Places Act.” Representatives from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Regional Office VI—Engr. Christian D. Lucena, Engr. John Christian D. Araneta, Engr. Elgen E. Equipado, and Engr. Eric Angel Magahum—visited MRO VI Director Jeffrey A. Bangsa to deliver the announcement.
This initiative aims to provide free internet connectivity in public areas, with MRO 6 serving as a host for the service. The program will involve the deployment and operation of infrastructure to enhance internet accessibility, ensuring seamless connectivity for stakeholders. This development is expected to significantly improve access to MARINA’s digital platforms, including the MARINA MISMO and MARINA BEST applications.
Director Bangsa formally expressed his full support for the initiative by signing the conformity letter and extended his gratitude to the DICT for selecting MRO 6. He emphasized that this endeavor would greatly benefit stakeholders by streamlining access to essential digital services and fostering greater efficiency in maritime-related processes.
