San Fernando City, La Union – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted a courtesy call on the Marina I and II (MRO 1&2) on 28 January 2025, reinforcing their commitment to maritime safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance in the region.
MRO 1&2 Regional Director Engr. Jedini Nur A. Sibal welcomed the PCG delegation led by Capt. Mark Larzen N. Mariano, District Commander of Northwestern Luzon. RD Sibal introduced MARINA’s regional team and acknowledged their contributions to vessel inspections, maritime licensing, and environmental advocacy. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to upholding the highest safety and regulatory standards through inter-agency collaboration.
Capt. Mariano reiterated the PCG’s support for MARINA’s initiatives and provided updates on ongoing operations in the region. These include the registration campaign for unregulated vessels, search-and-rescue operations, maritime law enforcement efforts, and marine environmental protection initiatives. He highlighted that these efforts align with MARINA’s objectives and contribute to a more secure and sustainable maritime sector.
The discussions focused on enhancing vessel monitoring and compliance through advanced technologies and shared data systems, strengthening joint enforcement of maritime regulations, and streamlining services to better support shipping operators, seafarers, and other maritime stakeholders.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a safer and more sustainable maritime industry, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing regional maritime challenges and ensuring the sector’s continued development.
