The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) in coordination with Bureau Veritas conducted an intensive training on the methods of calculating tonnage measurement of ships, which serves as important basis in the implemention of rules and regulations in the safe operations of ships.

In line with its mandate of enhancing maritime safety, the MARINA capacitates its technical personnel from Central and Regional Offices during the Tonnage Measurement System of Ships Training at the MARINA Training Institute, Bacolod City on 18-21 March 2025.

This is the fifth batch of MARINA’s tonnage training, which aims for the participants to have a thorough understanding in the computation of tonnages for different types of ship, as well as to learn current methods on tonnage measurement by applying approved formulas, ship plans and digital measurement tools.

MARINA Deputy Administrator for Operations Nannette Villamor-Dinopol highlighted the importance of capacity building especially for technical personnel who conduct surveys / inspections in order to continuously implement the policies and other rules and regulations in an effective and efficient manner.

SRS Director Engr. Ramon Hernandez, SRS-NAMED OIC Engr. Ernesto Caluza, Mr.Jimmy Ye Ji and Mr. Min Ba Nyar of the Bureau Veritas served as the resource lecturers of the said training.
