With the aim of achieving a safer and more efficient voyage at sea, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) continued to strengthen its collaboration during the 3rd MARINA-PCG Forum in Davao City on 26 March 2025.

The event, themed “Breaking Barriers and Harnessing the Power of Collaboration for Greater Achievements,” served as a platform for both government agencies to further discuss crucial topics such as information sharing, digitalization, effective implementation and enforcement of policies and other regulations in the maritime industry.

MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan emphasized the importance of continued conversation between and among the MARINA and the PCG implementing and enforcement units. Malaluan also highlighted that the ultimate goal is a safer and more efficient voyage at sea, which upholds the highest standard of maritime safety with open communication, shared responsibility and mutual trust. The Administrator recognized that sustained collaboration is the way to overcome barriers and gain greater milestones.

CG Maritime Safety Services Commander Vice Admiral Joseph Coyme shared their efforts related to enhancement of maritime safety. He also mentioned updates regarding Multi-Sectoral Governance Council, which MARINA supported in order to identify gaps and ways to compliment the PCG’s efforts, particularly in the conduct of maritime casualty investigation.

During the forum, updates on recent policies issued by MARINA were presented and discussed, while PCG presented policies, rules and regulations that seemed to be redundant, as well as those with identified gaps. Both agencies also agreed to include the Bangsamoro Maritime Industry Authority (BMARINA) as a regular member of the MARINA-PCG Forum, for a truly harmonized and uniform implementation and enforcement of rules and regulations.
