In line with the adaptation of the 10-year Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) and the intensified implementation of safety and security measures in the Philippine maritime industry, MARINA joins the EU-CRIMARIO Project’s 3rd IORIS Steering Committee in Cebu City, Philippines on 21 to 23 May 2025.
The 3rd ISC meeting was attended by more than 100 delegates from 50 different countries, who gathered to discuss and enhance policies aimed at ensuring safe and secure maritime domains, as well as preserving freedom of navigation both within territorial waters and in international seas. The Philippines was represented by Engr. Ronaldo P. Bandalaria, Chief of Staff to the MARINA Administrator; Ms. Annabell P. Lagas, Regional Director of MARINA Regional VII; and Atty. Benedicto G. Manlapaz, OIC Director of the MARINA Enforcement Service.
During the event, each member country of the IORIS community shared success stories highlighting how IORIS has improved their capabilities in providing information and assistance to other regions and stakeholders. These included the effective provision of security assistance to merchant fleets in the Red Sea, as well as information sharing from the national perspective of each participating country.
The program also featured the presentation and launch of the IORIS Version 4 system—a more user-friendly platform with advanced functionalities designed to enhance seamless communication, coordination, and decision-making among diverse maritime stakeholders.
MARINA reaffirms its commitment to intensifying collaboration with external regions and remains dedicated to enhancing safety and security protocols in the Philippine maritime industry at both national and international levels.
