The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) invites all digital content creators and talented seafarers and shipping companies to join the MARINA Video-Making Contest in line with the Celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer on 25 June 2023 with the theme “MARPOL at 50 – Our Commitment Goes On.”
Mechanics:
1. This contest is open to all Shipping Companies with the participation of Filipino Seafarers or group of Filipino Seafarers;
2. Create a video with a duration of 3 to 5 minutes that will showcase practices onboard the ship, in protecting the marine environment. It can be in the form of documentaries, short stories, and the like;
3. The video must be original and not yet been published or has won another award;
4. Entries must not be offensive in any way;
5. Participating Shipping Companies or groups of Filipino Seafarers should upload the video on their Facebook account and tag the Maritime Industry Authority FB Page. It should contain a short caption and the following hashtags:
a. #MARPOL@50
b. #OceansWorthProtecting
c. #DayoftheFilipinoSeafarer2023
d. #MARINA
e. #DoTr
If entry is from a group of seafarers, consent issued by their shipping company must be presented;
6. A screenshot of the uploaded video should be submitted at the email address: [email protected] (with Subject: MARINA Video-Making Contest) on or before 16 June 2023 at 06:00 PM stating the following information:
– Name of the Manning Agency/Shipping Company
– Name of the Seafarers
– Copy of the first page of SIRB/SRB
– Contact Number
– Email Address
7. All submitted entries shall be deemed property of MARINA;
8. The finalist should be determined by the Directors of the Maritime Safety Service, Domestic Shipping Service and Shipyards Regulation Service and the Overall Chairperson of the Committee of the Day of the Seafarer on 19 June 2023. The top 5 Finalists will be shared on the MARINA FB Page on 23 June 2023 at 06:00 PM; and
9. The presentation of the winners should be on 25 June 2023 during the Celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer.
Criteria for Judging:
– 40% Content
– 30% Creativity
– 30% Impact
As part of the Celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer on 25 June 2023, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) is calling on all talented seafarers to join the Digital Slogan-Making Contest showcasing the theme “MARPOL at 50 – Our Commitment Goes On.”
Mechanics:
1. Open to all Filipino Seafarers;
2. The slogan design must be original and not yet been published or has won another award;
3. It must not be offensive in any way;
4. It must follow the specifications:
– 420 mm x 297 (A3 size)
– 300 DPI
– Landscape or portrait orientation
5. Adobe Photoshop or any digital art software applications or media may be used;
6. Elements should be original and not downloaded images;
7. It should contain graphics and text;
8. Entry must be accompanied by at least 300 words of pledge of commitment to protecting the marine environment (either in English, Tagalog or Filipino dialect of choice);
9. Participants should post the slogan and the pledge of commitment on their Facebook and tag the Maritime Industry Authority FB Page. The caption should contain the following hashtags:

b. #OceansWorthProtecting
c. #DayoftheFilipinoSeafarer2023
d. #MARINA
e. #DoTr
10. A screenshot of the posted slogan should be submitted at the email address: [email protected] (with Subject: Digital Slogan-Making Contest) on or before 16 June 2023 at 06:00 PM stating the following information:
– Name of the Seafarer
– Copy of the first page of SIRB/SRB
– Contact Number
– Email Address
– Pledge of Commitment to Protecting the Marine Environment
11. All submitted entries shall be deemed property of MARINA;
12. It will be selected by the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Heads of Committee of the Celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer on 19 June 2023. The top 5 Finalists will be shared on the MARINA FB Page on 23 June 2023 at 06:00 PM; and
13. The presentation of the winners should be on 25 June 2023 during the Celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer.
Criteria for Judging:
– 50% Content (relevance to the theme; the pledge of commitment)
– 40% Style (originality and creativity)
– 10% Impact
