The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) paid a courtesy call to the Secretary of Climate Change Commission (CCC) in his office at Malacañang Compound, City of Manila on 05 May 2023.

During the meeting, CCC Secretary Robert Borje and MARINA Deputy Administrator for Planning Ms. Sonia Malaluan agreed to plan the drafting of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the MARINA and CCC to address issues on climate change particularly decarbonization of maritime sector of the country.

Sec. Borje reiterated that the current administration is doing its fair share on climate change action and he believes that having an agreement with MARINA will lead to formulation of strategic type of partnership on decarbonization.

Further, Deputy Administrator for Planning Malaluan personally invited Sec. Borje to the Regional Conference: Seizing Opportunities for Green Shipping in Asia and the Pacific which will be held at Rizal Park Hotel in Manila on 16-17 May 2023.

The MARINA in partnership with the Danish Maritime Authority of Denmark and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will conduct the conference which intends to gather key maritime stakeholders from Pacific Islands and Southeast Asian States to discuss energy efficiency, short sea segment, education of seafarers and global regulations.

SRS Director II Ramon Hernandez also presented “The Philippine Maritime Industry: Pathways for Decarbonization of the Maritime Transport Sector” during the courtesy call to Secretary Borje.

The courtesy call was also attended by other MARINA personnel including Shipyard Development and Licensing Division Chief Engr. Maria Teresa Mamisao, Senior Shipping Operations Specialist Engr. Jeremiah Perez and Senior Technical Writer Mr. Austin Bradley Magsino. The other CCC personnel in the meeting are Implementation Oversight Division Senior Science Research Specialist Engr. Aimee Evangelista, Policy Research and Development Division Development Management Officer Mr. Arnold Grant Belver, Information and Knowledge Management Division Information Officer Ms. Shaira Mae Cabanas, Strategic Partnership Division Development Management Officer Ms. Christianne Defensor and Executive Asst. of the Office of the Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Ms. Mirrian Roshiella Ducay.
