A pool of ship masters, security officers, marine and technical superintendents, and other shore-based personnel from companies operating Philippine-registered vessels (PRVs) in international trade participated in a two-day training course on the Indian Ocean Regional Information Sharing (IORIS) platform. The course was conducted by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) from February 1st to 2nd, 2024, in Manila.

During the workshop, participants gained knowledge and skills in the operational use of the IORIS platform.

Mr. Alexandru Chiric, Southeast Asia EU Project Representative, conveyed his great appreciation to MARINA for its sincere commitment to enhancing information sharing. He commended MARINA’s proactive response as the flag administration of the Philippines by involving PRV stakeholders in enhancing maritime domain awareness through the IORIS platform.

The cost-free IORIS training is part of MARINA’s commitment under the updated Maritime Industry Development Plan’s (MIDP) 2028 Overriding Programs, specifically Program 1 (Enhancement of Maritime Safety and Security) and Program 2 (Implementation of Sustainable Maritime Innovation, Digitalization, Transformation, and Knowledge Center).

In accordance with MARINA Advisory No. 2023-32, MARINA, in agreement with the European Union (EU-Cremario), will provide the use of IORIS, a secure and safe data exchange platform for sharing information such as marine accidents/incidents, piracy/armed robbery attacks, ship voyage data, ship situation reports, and other potential maritime safety and security threats.

This IORIS training is initiated and provided by trained personnel from the Enforcement Service, headed by Director Ronaldo P. Bandalaria, and Management and Information Systems Service Director Joseph Victor Generato PhD.
