The Philippines and France continued to strengthen 8their partnership in exploring the latest developments in the maritime industry during the 2nd Philippine-French Day at PHILMARINE 2024.

With the theme “Philippine-France Technical Cooperation on Maritime Safety, Maritime Security and Decarbonization,” the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the French Maritime Expert (FME) hosted two sessions, which were attended by the concerned government agencies and relevant maritime stakeholders from the Philippines and France at the SMX Convention Center, MOA Complex, Pasay City on 20 June 2024.

The event was participated by 15 French companies, that presented their products and shared its expertise in the maritime sector. Meanwhile, private stakeholders discussed the needs and challenges in the Philippine maritime industry during the morning session while different government agencies attended the afternoon session.

MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan expressed her appreciation to the French resource speakers who travelled hours to share knowledge and expand networking with Filipino counterparts. The Administrator also recognized the efforts of FME Mr. Emeric Faure who has been assisting MARINA in various plans and programs since November 2022.

Malaluan also mentioned the action plan that was developed in relation to the Final Report on the IMO-WBG Project Study on Enhancing Safety and Energy Efficiency of Domestic Passenger Ships in the Philippines.

In his inspirational message, Assistant Secretary for Maritime Atty. Julius Yano acknowledged the importance of “PH-French Technical Conference”, particularly in showcasing the capability of both countries in terms of aligning with the high standards set by the international community.

The said event was also attended by MARINA OIC-Deputy Administrator for Operations Atty. Sharon de Chavez-Aledo, MARINA Chief of Staff Engr. Ramon Hernandez, PMMA Superintendent Commodore Joel Abutal, SBMA Senior Deputy Administrator Ronnie Yambao, GICAN Delegate Ms. Caroline Tisserand, other government agencies and maritime stakeholders.
