Clark, Pampanga – MARINA lawyers from across the Philippines gathered for the 2024 MARINA Lawyers’ Convention that focused on drafting the administrative versions of key maritime bills, particularly, the Philippine Ship Registry Bill and the Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Development Bill. The session aimed to develop a new strategy for legislative advocacy, a vital element in promoting these bills in Congress.

In her opening address, MARINA Administrator Sonia B Malaluan emphasized the importance of celebrating achievements, committing to future tasks, and maintaining accountability. She highlighted that it is a critical period for the maritime industry, pointing to recent trends such as green shipping, decarbonization, and the use of advanced technology in shipyards. Malaluan also reiterated MARINA’s commitment to supporting local shipbuilders in maximizing digital technology opportunities while ensuring proper regulation.

The workshop concluded with significant progress in legislative drafting, and participants pledged to apply their new insights to their respective roles.
