Manila, 04 July 2024 – The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has partnered with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) to conduct a four-day “Basic Course on Project Monitoring and Evaluation” from 02 July to 05 July 2024.

The training aims to equip MARINA personnel with essential knowledge and skills for effective project monitoring and evaluation. The course covered the project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, regulation, evaluation, and closure.

In her address, MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan emphasized the need for the agency to focus on significant, implementable, and achievable projects aligned with the updated Maritime Industry Development Plan 2028 and its strategic plans. “These projects should result in substantial outcomes and transform the maritime industry,” she said.

Planning and Policy Service (PPS) Director Luisito U. Delos Santos underscored the importance of developing comprehensive project proposals. “Each proposal should include a complete framework, detailed budget, thorough implementation plans, and effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the successful execution and sustainability of MARINA’s projects and initiatives,” he stated.

DAP Sustainable Human Development Program Director Dorothea C. Boy-Navarro highlighted the training’s role in ensuring excellence and accountability in delivering projects and programs that benefit the Filipino people.

The training stressed the importance of robust monitoring and evaluation processes and tools, which are crucial for tracking and assessing the progress and effectiveness of MARINA’s projects, programs, and policies.
