The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) hosted the 191st Maritime Forum at the MARINA Board Room in Manila City today, 23 July 2024.

The Maritime Forum is a monthly activity organized by the Maritime League that is aimed to enhance inter-agency cooperation for the betterment of the country’s maritime industry by discussing topics beneficial for its advancement through improved collaboration among stakeholders in both government and the private sector.

In his opening remarks, Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma R Santos thanked MARINA for its active involvement and highlighted the significance of discussing pending bills and digitalization in the maritime sector. “There’s a need for us to strengthen our maritime industry to contribute towards the success and development of our country,” he stated.

MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan expressed her gratitude to the Maritime League for creating a platform to address key maritime issues. “This monthly forum provides a valuable opportunity for government agencies and private maritime stakeholders to address concerns related to maritime development, safety, security, marine environment protection, and improvements in shipbuilding and repair,” she noted.

The forum featured several important presentations: Dr. Joseph Victor S. Generato, Director of the Management Information Systems Service, introduced the MARINA BEST Digitalization Project. Atty. Sharon D. Aledo, Director of Legal Service, updated attendees on major pending bills related to ship registry. Atty. Daniel Martin G. Oral, Division Chief of the Prosecution Division in the Legal Service, provided insights into shipbuilding development bills.

Following these discussions, an open forum allowed participants to seek clarification and discuss various issues related to the presentations.

Ms. Blanca Joy Bustamante, President of IntelleVsion Events Philippines, concluded the forum by sharing details about the upcoming Maritime League Beacon Expo and Conference, scheduled for 30 September to 2 October 2024 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Since 1990, the Maritime League has been committed to advancing the maritime sector’s interests and promoting maritime safety and industry development through regular forums and other communication efforts.
