MALAY, AKLAN- The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) welcomed the international delegates of the Marine Accident Investigators’ Forum in Asia 2024 (MAIFA24), today, 04 September 2024.
The event brings together marine investigators from across the region for a three-day conference focused on enhancing cooperation and improving safety in the maritime industry.
The Marine Accident Investigators’ Forum in Asia provides a platform for casualty investigators to exchange ideas, methodologies, and practices in addressing marine accidents. The forum aims to strengthen cooperation and communication among member states, improve maritime safety, and prevent marine pollution through shared knowledge and experience.
Led by the MARINA Enforcement Service (ES), MAIFA24 focuses on enhancing collaboration in marine accident investigations. The forum’s objectives include promoting joint efforts among member states, sharing investigative findings, and exchanging views, techniques, and experiences to enhance safety standards.
Representatives from 11 member states—Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia—along with observers from France, the Marshall Islands, Denmark, and Saudi Arabia, are attending this year’s forum, joined by the Filipino Ship-owners Association, United Harbor Pilot Association of the Philippines, Local Government of Aklan, and Philippine Coast Guard Western Command.
The forum will also include a one-day technical tour, allowing participants to observe developments in maritime safety and accident investigation techniques.
MARINA looks forward to the discussions and collaborative efforts that will result from this gathering of international experts, working together to strengthen maritime safety in Asia.
