The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) welcomed the Peer Review Team from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Shipbuilding Committee (OECD-SBC) in the Philippines on 21 October 2024.
OECD Shipbuilding Unit Head Mr. Laurent Daniel along with Junior Policy Analyst Ms. Emilie Berger were welcomed by MARINA Deputy Administrator for Operations Nannette Villamor-Dinopol and Shipyards Regulation Service Director Engr. Ramon Hernandez at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for the conduct of the Peer Review for Philippine shipbuilding and ship repair under OECD-WP6.
Prior to this, MARINA, French Embassy to the Philippines and OCEA signed a Memorandum of Agreement to provide a framework for partnership among the involved parties for purposes of providing an assessment of the Philippine SBSR industry in terms of policies, incentives implemented and planned by the Philippines to support the sector. The said peer review aims to comprehensively assess the policies and the current situation of the SBSR sector that will be considered as vital inputs in the crafting of the Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Development Bill, which is one of the priority bills under the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028.
During the first day of peer review, the MARINA and OECD Team held separate meetings with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Board of Investments (BOI), and it also hosted a stakeholders’ forum with concerned government agencies. Other meetings, fora and related activities will be conducted by MARINA and OECD Peer Review Team until 25 October 2024.
The peer review of the Philippine SBSR industry is the first ever review conducted for a non-OECD member.
