MARINA Regional Office X Jointly Launches the 3rd Leg of Maritime Safety Culture Awareness Campaign Caravan 2024 and Ligtas Byaheng Dagat Campaign in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental
As part of its ongoing mission, MARINA Regional Office X, in collaboration with partner agencies such as the Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao (PCG) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) – Misamis Occidental/Ozamiz City, proudly announced the successful joint launch of the 3rd Leg of the Maritime Safety Culture Awareness Campaign Caravan 2024 and the Ligtas Byaheng Dagat Campaign: Enhancing Maritime Safety and Passenger Awareness Through Consultative Dialogue, held on 19 December 2024, in Ozamiz City.
The event commenced with a motorcade from the Ozamiz City Hall to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) – MOZ, Function Hall of PPA Building, followed by a town hall meeting at the Port Terminal Area of Ozamiz.
In her opening remarks, OIC Juliet S. Nacion emphasized MARINA X’s unwavering commitment to strengthening partnerships with stakeholders to uphold maritime safety standards. She highlighted the agency’s dedication to fostering a safer and more sustainable maritime industry through collaborative efforts and strategic initiatives.
The event received significant support from various key officials and organizations, including Hon. Henry A. Oaminal Jr., City Mayor of Ozamiz, represented by Atty. Sam Norman Fuentes; Engr. Salvador L. Delina, Port Manager of PPA-Misamis Occidental/Ozamiz City, represented by Ms. Nenita Ponteras, OIC Finance Division Manager; CG COMMO Vincent Bingbong D Fiesta PCG, represented by ENS John Pal Calingasan, PCG; Ms. Aurora H. Egual, OIC MPDC, as the representative of Hon. Dello T. Lood, Municipal Mayor of Sinacaban; CPPO Genesis S. Porras, PPA Port Police Station Commander; as well as maritime institutions, various maritime stakeholders, and members of the riding public.
Part 2 of the safety caravan is the Ligtas Byaheng Dagat Campaign featuring lectures and discussions on key topics, including Compliance Monitoring, Enforcement, and Maritime Safety Investigation. The Central Office Enforcement Service Unit, led by Ms. Jinky M. Mendoza, JD, along with Engr. Roland Kenneth M. Ballesteros, Mr. Yasir Hassan Jr., and Ms. Rizza Jane Torres, spearheaded these activities. Additionally, PO2 Leonel B. Bulaqueña delivered a presentation on the Philippine Coast Guard’s scope of responsibility in Northern Mindanao.
