MANILA, Philippines – In celebration of National Women’s Month and in recognition of the vital role of women in nation-building, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), through its Planning and Policy Service (PPS) and the Human Resource Management and Development Division (HRMDD), conducted an In-House Workplace Gender Sensitivity Workshop on 27 March 2025.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness and promote gender equality within the agency, reinforcing MARINA’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and empowering workplace for all employees.
In her welcome remarks, Management, Financial, and Administrative Service (MFAS) Director Atty. Marivic S. Ramos emphasized that awareness is the first step toward a gender-sensitive workplace. “It is when we recognize and give value to everyone’s diverse experiences and perspectives, regardless of gender, that we create a truly inclusive environment,” she stated.
The session, led by PPS Project Development Officer Ms. Lyrra Magtalas-Miraran, covered fundamental gender concepts, gender socialization, sensitivity, and the importance of safe spaces. Participants explored the distinctions among biological sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression (SOGIE)—crucial elements in fostering respect, acceptance, and inclusivity.
Through interactive discussions, representatives from each MARINA service unit examined real-life gender issues and their impact on workplace inclusivity. The workshop aimed to empower employees, prevent gender-based discrimination, and encourage collective action toward equality within the agency.
MARINA remains steadfast in its commitment to building a work environment that is safe, inclusive, and empowering for all employees, regardless of the gender. By reinforcing gender sensitivity as a shared responsibility, the agency continues to take meaningful steps toward a more equitable and supportive workplace.
