BULAN, SORSOGON — The MARINA Region V (MRO5), led by Regional Director Atty. Maximo I. Bañares, Jr., successfully conducted the Maritime Safety Culture Awareness Campaign Caravan today, 08 April 2025, at the Bulan Gymnasium.

The event commenced with a motorcade from the Matnog Municipal Hall and was followed by a program aimed at promoting a strong culture of safety within the maritime sector.

Key discussions focused on maritime safety initiatives, recent developments in the certification system, and updates from key maritime agencies. One of the highlights was the presentation of MARINA’s blockchain-enabled automated certification system, which is designed to enhance the integrity and efficiency of seafarer documentation and certification processes.

Representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard – Coast Guard District Bicol (PCG-CGDB), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region V (BFAR-V), and Philippine Ports Authority Bicol also shared updates and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening maritime safety.

The program concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between MRO5 and local government units to enhance collaboration on maritime safety initiatives. This was followed by an open forum where participants shared insights and actively engaged in discussions on strengthening maritime safety efforts.

The caravan marked a significant step in raising awareness and reinforcing stakeholder engagement in maritime safety across the region.
