The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has designated senior top official Ms. Sonia B. Malaluan as Officer-in-Charge Administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) on 01 July 2022.

OIC-Administrator Malaluan has been serving the MARINA for 32 years, and occupied top positions in the Agency such as OIC-Deputy Administrator for Planning (ODAP), Director of MARINA Regional Office – National Capital Region (MRO-NCR), and posted as Maritime Attache in London, United Kingdom.

The new OIC-Administrator played a major role in several MARINA organizational changes, including the development and issuance of related implementing policies, rules and regulations; as well as the crafting of the MARINA Roadmap for the development of the country’s domestic shipping industry, as part of the 10-year Maritime Industry Development Program (MIDP).

Further, MARINA OIC-Chief Malaluan is also a staunch advocate of women empowerment and equality, leading the WIMAPhil MARINA Sub-chapter as President for four years, and the Agency’s Focal Point on Gender and Development for eight years. She’s a current member of Women in Maritime Association – Philippines and the Governing Council of the Women in Maritime –Asia.

The new MARINA OIC-Chief, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), finished her Master’s Degree in Public Administration(MPA) from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore; Master of Science Degree in Shipping Management from the World Maritime University in Sweden; and a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Major in Accounting, in University of Batangas, Philippines.

OIC-Administrator Malaluan will lead MARINA until 31 July 2022, or until a replacement has been appointed or designated, whichever comes first.
