MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan and Presidential Assistant on Maritime Concerns (PAMC) Secretary Andres C Centino explored areas of collaboration on Tuesday, 27 February 2024, during a meeting at the MARINA Central Office in Manila. The focal point of the meeting was the development of a comprehensive maritime strategy aimed at fortifying the Philippines’ maritime sector.

Secretary Centino underscored the importance of cohesive collaboration with supporting government agencies to facilitate the sharing of resources, systems, information, and expertise, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive maritime strategy to address these challenges. He also shared that the OPAMC will be focusing on issues relating to maritime security, enforcement and maritime domain.

The discussions encompassed a wide range of critical topics pertinent to the maritime industry, including the updated Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028; the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) Audit; the Magna Carta on Seafarers; the country’s maritime education and training; shipbuilding and ship repair sector; efforts to modernize the Philippine fleet; as well as the business landscape within the maritime industry.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration to advance the Philippine maritime industry.
